A special presentation by Theresa Liewer, “DNA – The New Tool for Genealogy,” will highlight the benefits of using DNA to better understand your family origin. Liewer’s talk will review the DNA tests currently available.

“We’ll explore the websites that offer DNA testing, such as FamilyTreeDNA, GEDMatch, Ancestry and 23AndMe. We will compare and contrast their offerings,” says Liewer.

Liewer is past president of the Iowa Genealogical Society and currently serves as moderator of the DNA Interest Group. The meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the IGS offices in Des Moines.

Family History Night also offers family history resources for anyone interested in learning more about genealogy. WCGS members will be on hand to help you start your search for family ancestors, or help you discover new ways to continue your search. The Warren County Historical Society library will also be open during the evening for those interested in researching local archives.

Come and enjoy a cup of coffee or cider and treats while hearing the latest on DNA, the new tool for genealogy. For more information, call Donna Anderson, WCGS president, at 515-961-6663. Or visit the WCGS website, warrencountygenes.org.
