The Simpson College Community Orchestra will perform traditional works by Borodin, Schumann, and Grieg during its hour-long fall concert. Bask in the exotic melodies of Borodin's Prince Igor Overture, and experience the richness of the finale' of Schumann's Symphony #3. In the "Praeludium" of Grieg's Holberg Suite, come along on a galloping romp for the string ensemble; fasten your seat belt for this piece. The Three Bears, a unique programmatic piece by British composer Eric Coates, portrays the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears; Coates will delight members of the audience with sound effects, evocative melodies, and dramatic tempo changes. This piece may prove to be an audience favorite for guests of all ages.
Families with school-aged children are welcome at the performance. Children who are contemplating starting instrumental instruction will find Pote Theatre in the Blank Performing Arts Center a great place to see all of the instruments of the orchestra in action: woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. Audience members sit higher than the stage so that sight lines to any person/instrument in the orchestra are possible.
A free dessert reception will follow the performance.
