"Kids need a place to play, they need role models, they need good nutrition, but most of all they need to know there are people out there that care about them." Casey Blake
The Indianola Community Youth Foundation (ICYF) was founded in 2011 with a $1 million donation from Casey and Abbie Blake. The goal of the foundation was to fund efforts that would benefit the young people of Indianola.
ICYF recognizes the importance of good nutrition and healthy eatins so kids can perform at their best in everything they do. Out "Eat Well, Play Well" campaign promotes healthy eating habits and positive role models to students in the elementary schools. A nutrition guide was created and made available to all Indianola middle and high school students. We are currently providing snacks for the varsity teams when they travel to a conference or district game (at the coach’s discretion). We are always working with the school district to determine when open gym times can be scheduled throughout the year and providing supervision for those open gym times.
In 2018, ICYF teamed up with the Indianola Helping Hand and helped expand the food pantry's space. The goal is to lower the number of kids and families dealing with food insecurity.
ICYF’s vision for the future is to continue with our established programs plus add a new focus on helping kids obtain the items necessary for their success in school and in extracurricular activities. We will work through the schools to identify particular needs of students (who will remain anonymous) and provide what is necessary so they can participate like all other students.
