Steinbeck’s timeless novella Of Mice and Men becomes a superbly crafted opera of great beauty and power. George and Lennie are two migrant ranch workers who dream of owning an acre of land and a shack they can call their own. But George cannot guard Lennie, a childlike giant of a man with a love for soft things, from the bullying of the ranch boss and his flirtatious yet unhappy young wife. Steinbeck’s timeless story—in the hands of the Dean of American Opera, Carlisle Floyd—becomes a superbly crafted opera of great beauty and power.
Of Mice and Men is a Co-Production of Des Moines Metro Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Florida State University, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

Conflict, and disagreement are natural when people with different perspectives work together. But so few of us have the skills we need to navigate through conflict well. In this half day program, we’ll engage with a simple, proven model to help anticipate, recognize, and work through conflict in a healthy and productive way. With multiple examples, simple application, and engaging stories, you’ll grow your skills at navigating through conflict, so you can demonstrate resilience in the face of disagreement and maintain your calm!

Some meetings – and some meeting participants – are really tough! Gain and practice proven techniques to protect the productivity of the meeting and keep things moving forward well, even in the face of resistance, hostility, apathy, attempted domination, and other unprofessional behaviors. In this half-day workshop, we’ll weave stories of disruptive behavior into techniques of how to manage them with grace. Keeping in mind the essentials of any effective meeting and supplementing those critical foundations with advanced techniques to use when the meeting is at a standstill.
