The Indianola Public Arts Commission along with The National Balloon Classic, The Warren County Fair and Indianola Hometown Pride are bringing back our annual art festival in conjunction with the National Balloon Classic Parade.

The art festival will take place in Indianola’s historic Buxton Park on Saturday, July 30 from 10 AM - 4 PM. This is the start of the National Balloon Classic plus the fourth day of the Warren County Fair, so artists can expect Indianola to be bustling with tourists, balloons, music and food!

Applications are due no later than May 1, 2022.

Bring some color, life, and health into your home! Join 1 OAK at Soul Full to create your own 1 Of A Kind herb planters. Guests will leave with care instructions and maintenance tips for growing herbs in containers. Keisha Thompson, of 1 OAK, will guide guests in planting herbs in pots to take home. Grow indoors or outdoors. There are numerous benefits to growing your own herbs - fragrance, health benefits, or for culinary use!

All material with be provided. You’ll leave with 2 pots/herbs. Tickets are $44. This class requires a minimum of 10 participates or will be subject to a reschedule date.

Ackworth Garden Club Plant sale will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Moats Park, 900 N 1st St, Indianola, IA from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
This is our annual fundraiser. We use our proceeds to fund various projects in our communities. This includes Youth Container Gardening Class and Contest, Warren County Fair Junior Flower & Horticulture ribbons and premiums, and Log Cabin Days Big Pumpkin/Giant Sunflower Contest.  We maintain gardens at the Warren County Fairgrounds, Indianola Dog Park, Norwalk Brownie Park & Magnolia Arboretum, Carlisle Historical Randleman House, and Ackworth Church Grounds.  We also sponsor a $500 scholarship for a local Warren County horticultural student attending Iowa State University.

Open to all children K - 12 who reside in Warren County. Learn about potting your own planter and then entering it in the Youth Container Gardening Contest at the Warren County Fair.
At this free class you will learn about different types of potting soil, selecting plants, pots and maintenance of your plants. You will have hands on experience in preparing your soil, selecting a plant and potting it to take home with you. All parents and grandparents are welcome.

Friends of Warren County Conservation will be hosting their annual native plant sale. Spruce up your landscaping with some native plants that the pollinators will love.

A few favorites are include a variety of milkweeds, purple coneflower, White Indigo, Prairie dropseed, New England Aster, Goldenrod, Coreopsis, Blazing Star,Columbine, and many more. Quantities are limited.  All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit Warren County Conservation Board educational programming and exhibits.

Ackworth Garden Club will meet on Wednesday, May 25th at Scotch Ridge United Presbyterian Church, 13015 Scotch Ridge Rd, Carlisle. The business meeting will begin at 11:00 AM with gardening Q&A.  A lite lunch/snack will be provided by May hosts following the meeting at Noon with a program at 1:00 PM. The 11th annual Indianola Classic Car and Truck Show and Shine will be on  August 27 and September 24 from 4-7 p.m in the TruBank parking lot, 1901 West 2nd Avenue, Indianola, Iowa. All proceeds go to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Live music, food and a 50/50 raffle is all included. No entry fee. For more information click here.

The Veterans Memorial Day Parade is hosted by the American Legion. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. on May 30, 2022. Line up begins at 9:30 for participants who are in the parade and need to set up. Candy is allowed this year!

The Route: The Veterans Memorial Day Parade will start at the Warren County Administration Building, 301 N Buxton Street. Head south on Buxton to First Avenue, then to First Street, then south on Firth Street, cross Highway 92, continue south on First Street and end at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
