Gain new insights with bite-sized excerpts from Simpson degree and certificate programs. These workshops can be taken individually or as a series. Taught by Simpson faculty, each 1-hour course focuses on an essential skill or foundational element of adaptive and resilient leadership.

Session 1 - Trauma and Resilience: Recognition and Self-Care Strategies 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Our world is complex and trauma exists. It affects how people show up and how we lead. Build strength as a leader by being able to recognize trauma, become aware of how trauma affects behavior, and gain self-care strategies.

Session 2 - Data Analysis: Influence Through Data Storytelling 2:00pm - 3:00pm
One of the most challenging aspects of leadership is being able to make the case for a project or idea. Learn how to analyze data and create clear, effective visualizations to help stakeholders feel confident in the direction you propose.

Session 3 - Management: Fundamentals of Effective Project Management 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Guiding a project from start to finish can be daunting. Develop an understanding of how to build and balance a project scope, detail a timeline, and anticipate project costs. Having the basics of project management will set you up for success as a leader.

We don’t have time to do things twice. We also don’t have time to repeat ourselves. So how do we get our messages through the first time?

  • When we’re concerned about the level of risk on a project, how do we get that through to the people who need to be prepared for delays or cost overruns?
  • When we need additional resources to resolve the issue at hand, how do we get the attention of those who have moved on to other priorities in the business
  • When the decisions that need to be made have lasting impacts on the health of the organization as a whole, not just the stakeholder who screams the loudest, how do we make sure all of the right people are involved and paying attention?
  • When we need input from everyone, not just the highest paid person’s opinion, how do we engage all and only the right people?

Influencing up has never been more challenging than it is right now, because there are so many competing demands for our attention!

Right now, you’ve already moved on to something else in your head. But come back…Because there’s real pain here, and a need for real solutions. And we can talk through some real solutions. Influencing up is an art and a bit of science. There are tools and techniques that help us. There are some charts and boxes and some proven processes we can follow.

This quick-hit, action packed webinar will give you a set of

  • Critical success factors for influencing up in any organization, of any size or scale or industry.
  • Three techniques to help you focus your own skill growth where you need it most.
  • Practical, easy to apply tips to help you improve your stakeholder interactions to influence up, starting now.

When was the last time you truly enjoyed yourself?

Not to check a box. Not to be productive. But simply for the joy of it.

Between deadlines, responsibilities, and the ever-spinning mental load, many women push joy to the back burner—forgetting that it’s not a luxury, but fuel.

In this engaging and interactive event, followed by breakout sessions to dive even deeper, we’ll explore:

  • How memories, connections, and mindset shape your capacity for joy
  • Why joy is a muscle—and how to strengthen it without adding more to your plate
  • The permission slip you didn’t know you needed to make joy a priority
  • Practical strategies to build your own Joy List and create a Joy Calendar that works in real life

Together, we’ll clear the roadblocks, rediscover what makes you come alive, and make joy non-negotiable. Because when women lead with joy, the ripple effect is undeniable.

JOY IS MY JOB TOOLKIT

A Day to Reclaim What Fuels You — and Take It With You

Joy isn’t a luxury—it’s fuel. And in this energizing keynote and breakout workshop, you’ll get the space, strategies, and tools to bring more of it into your real life (not just the highlight reel).

Each participant will receive a custom Joy is my Job Toolkit—designed to help you build sustainable, soul-filling habits that stick long after the event ends.

You’ll walk away with:

  • A personal joy practice that fits into everyday life
  • A deeper understanding of how joy shapes memory, mindset, and connection
  • A tangible reminder that joy isn’t selfish—it’s your secret superpower

What’s inside the Joy is my Job Toolkit:

  • Brainstorming prompts to rediscover what lights you up
  • Reflection worksheets to clear roadblocks and reset your mindset
  • Joy List and Joy Calendar templates to help joy become a habit
  • Ten everyday joy challenges (think mini-missions that actually fit your schedule
  • A DIY Joy Scavenger Hunt to spark curiosity and fun

This isn’t fluff. It’s fuel.

Joy is a muscle—and this is your training ground.

We hope to see you there!

If someone asked you if everyone at your business is all working towards the same goals, headed in the same direction, working consistently as a unified team, would you smile and say, “Absolutely!” or would you pause?  When was the last time you could say confidently that your business was on track to achieve the goals you set out? Is any delay in your response because you haven’t measured, or because you haven’t set the goals?
It turns out that the healthiest organizations – the ones that produce the most consistently strong results, the ones that are able to predict outcomes even in unpredictable economic times, the ones that attract and retain the best employees, the ones that maintain the most lasting and stable relationships with their vendor partners – are the ones that do a handful of simple things:

  1. They have a simple but clear picture of why they do what they do and how they show up.
  2. They have a focused understanding of who they serve.
  3. They have a way to talk about the work they do that lets them see if they’re on track or off track and get back on track when they’re not.
Do you have that?  Do you want that?  It doesn’t have to be complicated.  Join us for this hands-on half-day workshop with Sinikka Waugh, president and founder of Your Clear Next Step as she brings the very best of business leadership to bear.  From right here in Indianola, over the past 17 years, Sinikka and the Your Clear Next Step team have helped over 56,000 people in hundreds of organizations of all shapes and sizes have better workdays through simple tools like the ones she’s offering here.
Join the Indianola Chamber & Your Clear Next Step on Tuesday, September 30th from 8:30AM-11:30AM for meaningful insights into figuring out how to keep your business on track!

BASIC AGENDA:
  1. Welcome and introductions:
  2. Part 1: A Solid Foundation
    1. Mission & Vision - Why you do what you do
    2. Values - How you show up
  3. Part 2: Knowing your Audience
    1. Customer Persona(s) - Who you serve
  4. Part 3: You Get What you Measure
    1. Functions & Processes - What work you do
    2. Roles & Responsibilities - Who does what
    3. Measures & Milestones - How you know you're doing what you say you'll do
