Learn More About Indianola’s Water Resource Recovery Facility: Open House on October 3, 2024

From 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, all are invited to learn more about the new state-of-the-art facility with a behind-the-scenes tour, interact with staff and see the overall plant workflow in action.

INDIANOLA, IA — After almost two years since the start of operations, the City of Indianola is thrilled to host an open house to showcase its new state-of-the-art Water Resource Recovery Facility, dedicated personnel and overall plant workflow.

Event Details
  • DATE: Thursday, October 3, 2024
  • TIME: 1:00-3:00 P.M.
  • LOCATION: 10939 Grimes Street, Indianola, IA 50125 | Parking & Route Map >
  • PURPOSE: All are invited to learn more about the facility with a behind-the-scenes tour, interact with staff and see how the plant works. Light appetizers and refreshments will also be provided.

About The Plant
Nestled in northwest Indianola outside of city limits, the City of Indianola's new state-of-the-art Water Resource Recovery Facility is one of the first wastewater treatment plants in the state to implement the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy – a science and technology-based approach to assess and reduce nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus delivered to Iowa waterways and the Gulf of Mexico.

Planning and development of the revamped site began in March 2016, with construction breaking ground in April 2020. The previous wastewater treatment plant, built in 1978 and designed for a population of 11,600 residents, was well beyond its useful life of 30 years, aging infrastructure and stricter regulations where the community's investment for a new plant was essential.

Following its completion in October 2022, and with an estimated growing population of more than 16,000 residents, the City of Indianola's Water Resource Recovery Facility today meets all of the state regulations established by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and the federal requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

In April, the facility received the grand prize in the Water/Wastewater category for the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards Competition.

For more information about the Water Resource Recovery Facility and the Water Resource Recovery Department, please visit www.indianolaiowa.gov/163/Water-Resource-Recovery-Department.

RSVP
If you would like to attend the open house, and to help the City gauge interest in preparation of the open house, please RSVP by the end of the day Friday, September 27. Access RSVP Form >

Don't miss the free "Rosie the Riveter of Iowa" program on Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 10 am. During the event, author Linda McCann will share inspiring stories of the women who supported the war effort during WWII. She had firsthand accounts from 35 women who worked as Rosie the Riveters, and copies of all her books will be available for purchase. Rosie the Riveter was a name used to encourage women to go to work during WWII to replace men who were fighting the war. Iowa had 70 businesses that used women to help with the production of military needs. Linda McCann will speak about these experiences and the different roles these women took on, whether in Iowa or on the West Coast.

With just a handful of key concepts, Changemakers can enable change in an organization in a way that protects business interests, empowers people, and simplifies the process. Join us in this session to learn more.

Changemakers are the individuals who put the good of the organization first, make authentic human connection, and consistently treat change as a process, not an event. They make things happen. More often than not, though, Changemakers get stuck. There’s not enough budget. Our projects keep falling behind. We rarely stick to a change when we propose one. Someone is always upset about an initiative. Is there a better way? Yes!

This jam packed and engaging session will give you the tools and techniques for a better way…

  • For change
  • To get more done
  • To bring people along

By attending this course, participants will:

  • Gain tools to help you improve your influence
  • Encounter a simple, easy-to-apply model for talking about one of the most disruptive forces at work
  • Enable you to identify and empower Changemakers around you
