Designed specifically for those who are actively managing projects, this class is a deep dive into the processes, knowledge areas, inputs, and outputs you need to know about to manage projects more effectively. Based on the best practices of the Project Management Institute’s Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, this highly interactive class will give you a chance to evaluate and improve your approach to project management.
You’ll learn about the constants – those fundamentals of project management that hold true regardless of the scope or nature of the project – plus you’ll be exposed to some of the most common reasons project approaches vary. This hands-on, no-nonsense class can serve as a foundation for project managers new to their role, as well as an eye-opening refresher for seasoned project managers who have been managing projects for years, and you will come away with tools you can use right away.
During this course, participants will:
- Identify the ten knowledge areas described by PMI’s PMBOK
- Practice creating commonly-used artifacts within the Project Management Lifecycle
- Describe some of the common mistakes made in Project Management
- Practice creating and managing a project plan
- Create solution options for building and maintaining a project team
- Identify opportunities for improvement, using recent projects as examples

The district will complete the high school renovation in two phases, using a “replace in place” concept plan. This involves a comprehensive modernization of the facility, replacing older sections of the building and incorporating existing sections that require less updating.
A groundbreaking ceremony will take place Monday, November 11, at 4:45 p.m. Board members will conduct a traditional groundbreaking and beam-signing ceremony. Members of the community are invited to attend. The site is located at 1304 E. First Avenue in Indianola.
“It is thrilling to see work begin on this project, which is the result of several years of collaboration and planning amongst the district, Board of Education, and community,” said Superintendent Tara Paul. “We greatly appreciate the individuals who have contributed to the success of this project from the very beginning. I look forward to continuing the first phase of this exciting project and watching the physical improvements of our schools for our students, staff, and community.”
Phase I of the project includes constructing a new two-story academic wing, community commons, kitchen, administration suite, and main entrance. It will also involve demolishing the existing one-story southern academic wing as well as reconfiguring parking and drop-off areas.
Join us for our 'All Things Pumpkin' coffee bar and snacks, and hear about the exciting upcoming construction at The Village and what it could mean for you!

As the sun sinks further behind the horizon, a naturalist will lead you through carefully chosen trails, ensuring your safety while experiencing the natural world in a whole new (lack of) light. The trail will be illuminated only by the glow of the full moon, creating an atmospheric ambiance that adds a touch of mystery and magic to the adventure. If the sky is cloudy it will cause the trail to be even darker! This program is tailored to cater to participants of various fitness levels and age groups. Whether you are a seasoned hiker or a beginner, we will adjust the pace and difficulty according to the group’s requirements, allowing everyone to enjoy the experience.
This guided nocturnal exploration provides a unique opportunity to witness the nocturnal wildlife in action. Listen attentively and you may catch the sounds of hooting owls, or rustling wildlife. Spotting nocturnal creatures like foxes, deer, or even an elusive raccoon adds an extra layer of excitement to the adventure.
No flashlights are required. While you can bring a flashlight if you feel absolutely necessary, we ask that you do not turn it on unless absolutely necessary! We want to have a chance to experience our true night vision. The naturalist will have lights in case of emergency.
Space is limited. Registration opens October 14th.

Simpson College Community Orchestra Concert
The Simpson College Community Orchestra will present its fall concert on Sunday, November 24th, at 7:30 pm in the Blank Performing Arts Center (BPAC). A dessert reception will follow the performance.
The free, hour-long concert is family friendly; children are welcome. The orchestra invites community members who have never attended an orchestra concert to feel comfortable to do so. Because the concert is only an hour in length, features literature that has been chosen for its variety and accessibility, and has been planned to appeal to musician and non-musician audience members alike, an SCCO concert is an "easy" first orchestra concert to attend. Additionally, there will be the reward of dessert at the reception following the performance. Come for the music; stay for the sweets.
The orchestra will herald the coming of the Christmas season with a performance of the Fantasia on "We Three Kings", by Brian Balmages. The piece includes a beautiful rendering of the familiar theme while introducing exotic harmonies. "What Child Is This" is included as a second melody in the middle of the piece.
The program includes two pieces by women composers. Dochas, which means "Hope" in Scottish Gaelic, is a slow fanfare by Laura Pettigrew to be performed by the full orchestra. The string orchestra will perform the first movement of Libby Croad's Suite for String Orchestra, an ensemble favorite because of its playful fugal melodies and its interplay of pizzicato and arco passages.
The audience pleaser may prove to be the Danzon #2, a Cuban dance piece by Arturo Marquez, featuring syncopated rhythms, a lively tempo, and assorted percussion instruments. Audience members may find it difficult to keep their feet and hips still!
Please call 515-961-1637, the phone number for the Simpson Music Office, with any questions regarding the performance. BPAC has a step-free entrance on the south end of the building. Cars may pull up to the south doors to drop off passengers before parking in the lot. Additional parking is located in two lots to the north of the performance venue.

You will have the option to participate in a 5K Turkey Trot with prizes for the top 3 winners or a 1 Mile Turkey Walk. Winners will receive a free pie to bring to their Thanksgiving feast!
