Join the Warren County Conservation Center and Annette Nature Center at their Seeds & S'mores: Prairie Seed Harvest event on October 7 at 5:30 p.m. You will learn to identify prairie plants, harvest seeds from several prairie plants, and roast s'mores!

You can bring a bucket and hand nippers or they will have some to use. It is recommended to bring a pair of gloves and to dress appropriately (long pants are best to keep itchy prairie plants off of your legs).

Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach is offering a food safety training for food service managers on October 13, 2022 at the Warren County Extension Office in Indianola.
“Certification in ServSafe® meets the Iowa Food Code requirements to have a certified food protection manager in all establishments,” said Cathy Drost, class instructor and ISU Extension and Outreach human sciences specialist in food and health. "We live in a time when food safety hazards and risks are prevalent. Serving safe food is mandatory. This eight-hour program aims to train food service professionals about food safety requirements and best practices to meet them.”
According to Drost, the program is based on the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe® certification program and the Iowa Food Code. The class is beneficial for foodservice managers from all areas such as schools, restaurants, convenience stores, child care, senior meal sites and health care. Participants will receive a copy of the ServSafe® Manager training manual and will take the ServSafe® certification exam.

Intended audience: Food service managers and employees
Format: One 6-hour course plus certification exam
Certification: Upon successfully passing the exam, certified by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation as a Food Protection Manager
Cost: $160 ($110 if a member of Iowa Restaurant Association)

You are invited to the Murder-Mystery Dinner, Set Sail for Disaster, put on by The Local Vine! This Murder-Mystery Dinner sets place on a cruise ship, the Elizabeth May, run by Captain Michael Von Ammon. Set Sail for Disaster is a Murder-Mystery Party wherein the guests will take on the roles of Captain Michael Von Ammon, his guests, and staff. You will play one of those characters throughout the course of the event. At some point during the evening, one of the guests will be “killed” by one of the other participants, and the remainder of the evening will be spent piecing together clues in an attempt to determine who the murderer is. Food and drink will be provided for additional cost throughout the event.You absolutely do not want to miss this event!

She also obtained her master’s in education from Creighton. Prior to these degrees, Lisa was named the Student of the Year at College of St. Mary, where she earned her master’s of arts in teaching. She also attended Iowa State University where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in English – Rhetoric & Professional Communication. After brief stints in technical writing and insurance, Lisa recognized that her passion and purpose was in education. She knew the day she stepped foot in a classroom that she would forever have a passion for education. Lisa has taught a variety of subjects to a variety of grade levels, including teaching English to adults. Lisa transitioned into school leadership and during her time as a school administrator, she has overseen every grade level from PK-12. Lisa currently serves as a Director of Educational Services for an Area Education Agency in Iowa. This career journey has inspired Lisa to continue to coach and support others.
